Issues of tourism and sports development were discussed

On January 28, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of tourism, further popularization of physical culture and sports.

Today, the global tourism market is nearly $ 9 trillion. Every tenth employed person in the world works in this area.

According to research, tourists prefer to visit those countries, the flight time to which does not exceed 5 hours. About 60 states and a population of 3 billion people are located around our country in this radius. Of these, almost 360 million people travel annually. This is a huge tourism market.

Last year, Uzbekistan was visited by 6.7 million tourists. More than 10 reputable foreign publications have recognized our country as one of the most attractive tourist destinations.

In his recent Address to the Oliy Majlis, the head of our state noted that the transformation of tourism into a strategic sector of the economy is a priority.

It is planned to ensure an increase in the flow of foreign tourists up to 7.5 million this year, up to 10 million in 2022 and up to 12 million in 2025. Due to this, the export of tourism services will be brought to $ 1.5 billion this year and up to $ 3 billion over the next five years.

Thanks to the efforts of the head of our state, in particular as a result of the consistent implementation of the tasks outlined in the President's decree "On measures to ensure the accelerated development of domestic tourism" dated February 7, 2018, as well as as the well-being of the population grows, domestic tourism is also developing widely. However, there is an acute shortage of hotels that meet international standards, qualified personnel guides.

In this regard, it is required to increase the number of hotels up to 1.7 thousand this year and up to 3 thousand over the next 5 years. It is necessary to increase the number of family guest houses to 2 thousand.

Due to this, it is planned to create at least 30 thousand new jobs in the tourism sector annually.

The meeting, held in a critical spirit, discussed the measures that need to be taken to achieve these indicators.

Along with the expansion of traditional types of tourism, the need to develop new directions was noted.

Instructions were given for the development of medical tourism in such areas of medicine, where our country has high potential, such as cardiology, urology, dentistry, ophthalmology, as well as attracting strategic investors to sanatoriums in Uzbekistan. The possibility of establishing close cooperation with the trade unions of the CIS countries and a sharp increase in the number of tourists was pointed out.

The State Committee for Tourism Development and the Ministry of Culture have been instructed to increase the number of objects included in tourist routes to 800 this year and 2.5 thousand by 2025.

The importance of implementing investment projects for the development of winter tourism in 2020-2025 was emphasized.

Reasonable complaints from passengers cause low quality of service on airplanes and trains, expensive tickets. As a result, many choose the services of foreign carriers. It was pointed out at the meeting that domestic rail and air routes do not stand up to competition.

The Ministry of Transport and the State Committee for Tourism was instructed on the effective use of the "open skies" regime introduced at 4 airports in the country, the opening of new flights, an increase in the number of high-speed trains, and a reduction in ticket prices.

They also touched upon the development of roadside tourist infrastructure, the implementation of the projects "Tourist village", "Tourist aul" and "Tourist mahalla".

Last year, foreign film companies shot 6 feature films in our country worth 1.6 million dollars. It was noted at the meeting that the establishment of a system of compensation by Uzbekistan for part of the shooting costs of foreign companies will give a great impetus to the development of cultural tourism, and will also serve to promote the image of our country in the international arena.

The Uzbekkino national agency has been instructed to develop cooperation with foreign film companies, to introduce mechanisms for organizing filming in our country.

In the course of considering the issue of training personnel for the tourism sector, it was noted that there are many unresolved issues in establishing a system for training personnel for working specialties in 20 universities, as well as in 3 technical schools and 9 colleges assigned to the State Committee for Tourism. The tasks for the implementation of advanced experience in the learning process have been identified.

The meeting also discussed issues of development of the sphere of physical culture and sports.

The Presidential Decree "On measures to further improve and popularize physical culture and sports in the Republic of Uzbekistan", adopted on January 24 of this year, became a solid basis for the further development of the sphere.

The decree defines measures to organize a system for the formation of a high-quality sports reserve by specializing all districts and cities for at least 3 sports.

The task has been set to build 269 football fields, volleyball, basketball and badminton courts, 178 halls for boxing, kurash, fitness and gymnastics, 32 tennis courts this year, specific funding sources have been identified.

The meeting discussed issues related to the implementation of this decree.

The Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports was instructed to identify those who wish and, together with the Ministry of Construction, prepare standard projects for the construction of sports facilities in the regions using inexpensive and energy-saving materials.

The need was noted to bring the total number of the population regularly engaged in physical culture and sports to 18 percent this year, to 30 percent by 2025, as well as to attract at least 30 percent of children and youth from 7 to 30 years old to mass sports.

The importance of the development of sports tourism through the holding of world and continental championships and other prestigious sports competitions in the country was pointed out.

The importance of further development of national sports, including kurash, and its inclusion in the program of the Olympic Games was emphasized.

At the meeting, special attention was paid to the preparation of athletes for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
