APTA is launching the DMO project, a new stage in the development of the country's tourist destinations

The Association of Private Tourism Agencies of Uzbekistan (APTA) announces the launch of a new project to introduce the Destination Management Organization (DMO) model in Uzbekistan, a modern management system for tourist destinations that is successfully used in many countries around the world.

Today, the tourism industry of Uzbekistan is experiencing a period of active growth. The flow of foreign tourists is increasing, the geography of travel around the country is expanding, new routes and accommodation facilities are emerging. At the same time, there is an increasing need for modern management mechanisms for tourist facilities and territories, effective promotion of regions and closer cooperation between the state, business and local business communities.

Having studied the best international practices in tourism development, the expert team conducted a comprehensive analysis of the models of functioning of tourist information centers, mechanisms of public-private partnership and the activities of tourist destination management organizations (DMO), which today are one of the most effective tools for the development of destinations in the global tourism industry.

What is DMO?

A Destination Management Organization (DMO) is an organization responsible for the development, management, and promotion of a tourist destination — a city, region, or tourist destination. Unlike travel companies, DMO does not sell tours, but creates conditions for the sustainable development of the territory, combining the efforts of authorities, tourism business, cultural facilities, the hotel sector, transport companies, local residents, etc.

The main objective of DMO is to make a tourist destination more attractive, competitive and comfortable for both travelers and businesses.

APTA's new project is

Taking into account the long-term experience of working with the tourism community, international organizations and government agencies, APTA is launching a project to create a DMO in Uzbekistan. The new project will also serve as a modern tourist Information Center (TIC), providing high-quality information support for tourists and participants in the tourism market.

The project will become a platform for combining the efforts of the state and the private sector, the development of regional tourism products, the formation of new routes and the promotion of Uzbekistan's tourism potential in domestic and international markets.

The launch of the initiative will also strengthen the work on the development of domestic and inbound tourism, expand the interaction of industry participants.

The main areas of DMO work

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to implement a set of measures aimed at increasing the competitiveness of tourist destinations in Uzbekistan. Among the key functions:

✅development of new tourist products and tourist routes;
consulting services for the management and promotion of tourist facilities and tourist flows;
organization and holding of tourist events
✅ conducting research on the tourism market, analyzing the needs of travelers and evaluating the effectiveness of marketing campaigns;
✅ improving the competencies of representatives of the tourism industry
Developing partnerships between government agencies, the tourism industry, and local communities.

An innovative approach to tourism development

World practice shows that the competitiveness of tourist destinations today is determined not only by the number of attractions or hotels, but also by the quality of management of the territory and tourist facilities, the effectiveness of promotion, the availability of a unified development strategy and the coordination of all industry participants.

That is why the introduction of the DMO model is an important step for the further development of tourism in Uzbekistan.

The new APTA project will make it possible to apply modern international approaches to the management of tourist destinations, create in-demand tourism products, develop the professional competencies of industry specialists and increase the attractiveness of the country's regions for tourists from all over the world.

The launch of the DMO will be another contribution of the APTA to the development of the tourism industry in Uzbekistan and a confirmation of the APTA's commitment to implement the best international practices that contribute to the sustainable development of tourism, strengthen partnership between government and business and increase the international competitiveness of the country as an attractive tourist destination.
