Appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Uzbekistan

Nikolai Doroshenko, who previously served as ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, and also worked in the diplomatic mission of Ukraine in Russia, has been appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Uzbekistan.

On April 14, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Nikolai Petrovich Doroshenko as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Uzbekistan. The corresponding decree was published on the website of the head of state.

The diplomat has already commented on his appointment on Facebook:

“I am sincerely grateful to President [Volodymyr] Zelenskiy and Minister [Foreign Affairs Dmytro] Kuleba for their trust in representing the state of Ukraine in the international arena. Recently, the minister rightly remarked that “while we were sleeping, the world received a new landmark. Oriental “. Uzbekistan is also the East, also Asia, culturally important and economically promising. I am ready to start work on the formation of a new milestone in Ukrainian-Uzbek relations, mutually beneficial, pragmatic, with great potential! "

Mykola Doroshenko worked in the system of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Presidential Administration of Ukraine and the National Security and Defense Council. Served as Minister-Counselor of the Ukrainian Embassy in Russia and Ambassador-at-Large. From 2015 to 2017, he worked as the Ambassador of Ukraine to Kyrgyzstan, after which he returned to serve in the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The previous Ambassador of Ukraine Yuriy Savchenko completed an eight-year mission in Uzbekistan in March 2019. Since that time, the Ukrainian diplomatic mission was headed by the temporary attorney Denis Pogrebnoy.

Recall that a meeting of the Uzbek-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission was scheduled for April 9-10 in Tashkent, the first in the last 12 years. In addition, the parties were working on the resumption of air traffic, which was terminated back in 2015.

The preparation of intergovernmental events was influenced by the coronavirus pandemic. Both countries have completely stopped air traffic and introduced a self-isolation regime.
