Seminar on Travel journalism in Tashkent: Specifics of the direction and prospects for development

On May 28, 2024 in Tashkent, at the Uzbek State University of World Languages (Department of International Journalism), a seminar on “Travel journalism: specifics of the direction and prospects of development” was held.

This important event was organized by the Association of Private Tourism Agencies of Uzbekistan (APTA) under the USAID's Future Growth Initiative project.

The seminar was aimed at developing and popularizing travel journalism among students, giving them the opportunity to delve deeper into the specifics and prospects of this fascinating and dynamic field. APTA experts and journalists shared their knowledge and experience with the participants, helping them learn the key skills and techniques needed to create quality travel content.

Participants were second year students who were introduced to a number of important topics including:
- How to write compelling travel-stories: The basic principles of writing compelling and engaging travel stories.
- Structure of a travel-story: How to structure your material so that it is logical and readable.
- Use of literary techniques: Methods and techniques that help to make the text more lively and expressive.
- How to find inspiration: Tips and ideas on where and how to find inspiration for your writing.
- How to take beautiful photos: Photography basics to help enhance the visuals of travel-stories.
- How to promote your work: Strategies to promote your articles and photos on social media and other platforms.

During the seminar, it was also announced that a contest for the best travel journalism articles and video was launched. This contest will give all travel and travel writing enthusiasts an opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity and be recognized for their efforts and talent.

The travel journalism training workshop was an important step in the development of this field among young people. It helped participants to better understand the specifics of the travel journalism profession, inspired them to create their own projects and provided a platform for sharing experience and ideas.
