Temporary closure of Urgench International Airport for major repairs

From July 20 to August 7, 2024, Urgench International Airport will suspend its operation in connection with the beginning of overhaul of the runway.
The need for repair is caused by the long operation of the runway. In order to ensure safety, major construction and repair works will be carried out, including replacement and reinforcement of the runway surface on the entire length of 3000 meters and width of 16 meters. The second and third taxiways will also be overhauled.
Upon completion of the repairs, Urgench Airport will be able to accommodate wide-body airplanes such as Boeing 787 and Airbus A330, which will significantly increase its operational capabilities and passenger service level.
A major reconstruction of the runway at Urgench was last carried out in 1997, and partial repairs were carried out in 2018.
All flights will be diverted to Nukus International Airport for the period of repair. A shuttle service between Nukus and Urgench airports will be organized for passengers' convenience. It is recommended to check additional information about flights with the respective airlines.
